Nominees for the eighth annual 2012 International Mobile Gaming Awards (IMGA) have been announced. 30 nominees in a range of categories were chosen out of almost 500 games by a group of professionals from a wide range of mobile gaming sectors.
The professionals chosen to select the nominees met in Marseille, France last week and included representatives from the sectors of game development, journalists for mobile gaming sites and those involved in hardware for mobile gaming.
While the 30 nominees have been chosen, the winners for each category will be announced on March 1, 2012 at the Mobile World Congress which is being held in Barcelona, Spain.
Nominees were chosen in six categories and include best casual game, best real world game, best sports game, best mobile social game, excellence in game play and most innovative game.
The winners from each category will be awarded around $130,000 of free publicity from ProSieben Sat1 Games, a Platinum Sponsor of the IMGA. The overall winner will be awarded around $525,000 of free publicity.
“We have had an unprecedented response for this year’s awards. We see a trend of very high quality, big productions coming to the mobile platform, and on the other hand, a lot of fresh, innovative, casual games,” said Maarten Noyons, CEO and founder of the IMGA.
“The eighth IMGA shows a wealth of new ideas and ground-breaking quality coming from studios all over the world.”
“I would like to congratulate each of the developers that have games nominated and thank everyone who submitted games to the awards.”
Twelve jury members will gather in a hotel in Barcelona to play the nominated games. A nominee can present their game to the jury, but it is not mandatory and the judges will choose a winner for each of the six categories, as well as an overall winner. The final results will be announced on March 1.
